After November Update to Android 14 / one ui 6.0 on samsung galaxy a53 there are no more notifications when App is not active in use (either foreground or in background). Under Android 13 this was funtional. Edit: App version 6.23.1 from fdroid. Sorry for Editing twice, i'm new here...

OK, so i tried multiple times to re-install the app with an without wiping cache and data of app before de-installing the app and import my previously exported calendar entries. smartphone restart included ;-) . i also tried it with and without re-importing my calendar setting but no success => no notifications when calendar is not started :-( i checked notification setting multiple times but can't find something wrong. i tested the samsung calendar - it runs without the above mentioned problem. any suggestions?

after testing samsung calendar i noticed that after going to setting- (Einstellungen)->Apps->Kalender (notice that there are in german at least two of "kalender"- one is samsung calendar (the former s-planner) and the other is simple calendar pro which is named the same way as the new samsung name) tap on the right app-choose "battery" (Akku) and change to "not restricted"(nicht eingeschränkt) - the first entry on top. before it was "optimized (optimiert). after that change, notifications come as before. at my device this was necessary also for samsung kalender to notificate the right way. same device of my wife (Samsung galaxy A53) samsung kalender runs with "optimized"setting flawlessly (she has the adaway-app in use also). kinda strange .... or may be i miss sth... further suggestions are welcome.

i dont know what happens after a new start of device after the "apps are optimized"-run... Maybe i try these days to set it back to optimized and run another test

@hoolgascht I found a solution. First put the battery optimization as Unrestricted. Then go to Samsung Calender >> Settings >> Manage Calenders >> turn on 'My Phone' option . It's working for me now even after restarting the phone. Hope it works for you as well.
