Refreshing Simple-Calendar does not refresh DAVx5 + no feedback

Open pjaap opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

When I manually refresh (pull down) the Simple Calendar the connected CalDav calendars (managed by DAVx5) are not updated. I have to go to the DAVx5 app and update the calendars there first.

  • It worked before by simply updating the Simple-Calendar and stopped working a while ago (not sure when exactly)
  • I get no feedback whether Simple-Calendar is still looking for updates (feels like running in background forever)

I just discovered that the same thing is happening to me. My CalDav calendar is hosted on a nextcloud instance, and I'm trying to refresh using DAVx5.

Please let me add:

I have found out that a manual update does not update the calendar. It is NOT enough to go one month forward or backward. I have to leave the calendar app and then go back to it. Then the data is up to date. Maybe it is enough to lock the screen and unlock it.

So it looks like the calendar, after the update, will only make the dates visible when an external event like restarting the app or unlocking the screen happens.

BTW: I am also using Nextcloud

Same happened to me with Calendar pro (from play), DAVX5 and fruux service.

For a long time with same configuration SimpleCal was working fine. But at certain moment, after doing manual sync with DAVX5, SimpleCal was not updating events, even after clicking on "Refresh".

However, the preinstalled Samsung "Calendar" was displaying the correct and recent updates received DAVX5 sync.

As far as I know, both calendar read the events from the same file/storage on android, so the problem must be at Simple Cal and/or data format.

Now SimpleCal is working fine again but I don't know the cause or how it got solved.

Same thing still happens to me, using etesync.

@tibbi @naveensingh Unreliable synchronization (while other calendar apps do not show the same issue on the same device) has been an issue for years now, see:

https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Calendar/issues/915 https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Calendar/issues/1208 https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Calendar/issues/1389 https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Calendar/issues/1849

How can we debug this properly to get it working once and for all?
