Hi there,

How to view the downloaded issues even after the publisher removed it from the shelf ?

Any idea ?

Thank you Kalyan

Hello there :)

If the issues are removed, they are removed even for the user.

But it should not be removed from user right ? because they downloaded by paying for it.

Publisher can remove the issues from the shelf but it should not remove the downloaded issues from user unless user deleted the downloaded issues.

anyway to achieve this ?

Thank you

Well... it's not that simple:

  1. Might be free, so they might not have paid.
  2. The ownership of it depends on the EULA. The fact it's sold doesn't legally mean it's owned. Might be a very narrow license.
  3. The author might want to remove it for whichever reason, might even be a copyright violation, a takedown notice, a lawsuit, and so on. Not being able to do that, could trigger very big issues for the author.
  4. The technology stack isn't really geared from that. The way iOS manages downloaded files assumes that the file can be re-downloaded again.
  5. It's the same way updates can be managed.
  6. If the publisher removes them, it's not much a Baker issue but a reader-publisher issue.

All these points are compound in the decision of not supporting the accessibility of downloaded issues if the author removes them.

That said, it doesn't mean it's not possible to implement a solution. It's just a high cost of development compared to the benefits. If you need the feature, you can add it yourself and eventually push it back to Baker to be integrated. :)

I hope it clarifies the issue. :)

I understand the OP's frustration on this, I too was hoping for an addition of a library to put older issues that were no lo her active but that had been downloaded or purchased. In fact I suggested a while back... Its not always wanted to display all back issues for download, however it would be nice for there to be a library archive to store say a cached download or purchased version. So the issue would no longer be live and displayed for sale but could still be accessed by those that initiated a download or purchase. Similar to pixelmags solution.

That's a different feature request, that can be implemented without any additional library. I understand it was a feature you really wanted, but please don't mix in other request. ;)
