Open asbelong opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

Environment

🪟 Windows

System

chrome 135.0.7049.97 ,windows11 24H2 26100.3775

Version

1.12.14 staging

Desktop Information

node v23.11.0

Describe the problem

When I try to delete a chat file using the "Manage Chat File" button, the action doesn't seem to complete successfully.

Although the terminal outputs a confirmation message like this:

Deleted chat file: data\default-user\chats\全裸登校\全裸登校 - [email protected]

The file is actually not deleted from the disk.

Any further info on this? I can delete files on my end, so it's hard to reproduce this.

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry to bother you again, but I'm having a similar issue: when I rename my character cards, the original cards remain (not deleted/replaced), and the SillyTavern backend crashes. I’m not using any third-party extensions—this even happens on the stable branch. I’d appreciate any help in identifying the possible cause. I can provide relevant details if needed. Thank you!

Definitely need all the details you can get.

@asbelong

can you confirm a couple of things?

where is ST installed in your OS? is it a windows controlled folder? Is it being backed up by something like Onedrive? Can you create a character using only Latin script, no special characters, just something like ABC and confirm if it happens on that as well?

also just for hygiene - ST recommends the latest Node LTS version, as on date that is v22.15.0, though that should not be the issue here.

It's not hard to imagine that Node 23 broke Unicode file names. It actually happened before (with emojis in file names). So yeah, better stick to latest LTS as recommended.
