Special Characters Breaking in Illustrator 2022

In Illustrator 26.2.1 the variable importer script is breaking, with special characters not displaying properly upon variable import.

Languages like Chinese/Japanese/Thai that use special characters are not displaying properly, and accent marks in languages like French are displaying like the attached screenshot.

When importing the variables manually through the variables panel, this does not happen. Additionally, in Illustrator versions before 26.0.1 this was not happening.

Any ideas?
