a way to place a tile while surfing
To explain: islands are fun, making stuff is fun, so we should be able to make an island easily without being in dev mode
maybe this could be done by using DIG while SURFing

You only need Dig. You don' need Surf for this. Just build a bridge going out to sea, then start placing sand, grass, etc at the other end. I did this just fine. Though I made a sand path going out to the island and replaced it with the bridge later.

I am specifically interested in isolated islands what I find hard/annoying (discluding a graphical glitch where removing the land bridge leaves mud tiles on the map the whole way to the island) is sometimes you need to bridge over nearly half the map to put a single tile to seed the island and then remove the bridge again across almost half the map
It seems I misunderstood what you were aiming for. My mistake. Regardless, Idk if that's really a possibility (though it would be nice). That said, it seems like a stretch, and you probably already know, but maybe try with a Rhyperior? I don't think it will work, but it alone can use both Surf and Dig.
@JENOVAAbsolute That would be a cool reason to get Rhydon/Rhyperior aside from hm slavery. Severly doubt this is already implemented but will try.
If not, an implementation could be similar to using surf while flying: Dig while surfing or flying could land the the player on a tile generated in the water by the transition. This could be the last terrain selected while using dig or the terrain of the largest availability in players bag and could cut of the move usage if the player has no terrain materials.
Though I don't know how this game is programmed so if you think this issue is cumbersome it wont kill me if you close it
