[BUG] Locations Tab
V10.0.0.0 Beta 10 (also in Beta 9)
On the locations Tab I get listed all the countries found in the gedcom. I have one that's labelled "England and Wales"
When you double click on "England and Wales" you get a list of all the Individuals and Families that contain this location.
Double clicking on the 1st line gives the Facts report for this person. Here you can now see where the location "England and Wales" has come from.
Here you can see the Fact is for the 1921 Census, and it appears that FTA has created a second entry that includes the location called "England and Wales"
Not sure why FTA is creating the 2nd entry for 1921 (it doesn't for other census years)
Does FTA have to create a 2nd entry? If Yes, should the location data be changed to some country that exists?
Hmm I think it does this for any England & Wales census the issue is that it has found a census reference but no census fact. So it creates a temporary census fact so the census reports fill out. However it cannot tell (at least I'm not sure how it could tell from the census ref) whether the census record is in England or Wales. I suspect it would need some sort of table of which country the piece/folio refers to. Although I guess there may be a pattern to the numbers eg: England is piece 1-xxx and Wales is piece xxx+1-yyy.
Are you aware of any such pattern? Should it be that detailed or leave England & Wales as a heads up a census ref exists but there's no census fact.
Is the issue to do with that it finds a 1921 source, creates a Residence fact but reports "an unknown census ref", but FTA then finds a valid census ref within that text and therefore creates an FTA Fact? Hmmm maybe not, in the example below I don't know where FTA has found Piece 19, Folio 2 Page 1
Ah, is it a coincidence that Piece 19, Folio 2 Page 1 are the numbers 1921 (which is the year we're talking about)? I've just checked other lines in the report and they all have the same Census Ref (Piece 19, Folio 2 Page 1) for the FTA Fact.
It would indeed be a remarkable coincidence so it’s not impossible that’s the root cause. Can you create a snippet that shows the error so I can step through and see what the cause is please.
Here's a small file, I changed the extension from ged to txt so you'll need to change it back :)
Actually, this file also highlights another error, there is a location called Unknown.
If you double click on this to find the people attached to it, you get this response:
