Cursor very slow on Debian stable

as stated, cursor is ridiculously slow

What is the QEMU version on your machine?

Does your QEMU use KVM? I will close this for now since that seems to be the issue and there has been no response to the other question in three weeks; feel free to reopen.

as of writing, apt reports 1:7.2

Yes, it does use KVM as far as I can tell. I also do not seem to be able to reopen the issue on my account, if I'm missing something I don't use github often.
