WebDAV not compatible with GNOME Online Accounts

Open balintbarna opened this issue 10 months ago • 6 comments

In the recent versions of Gnome the Online Accounts tab in settings got a new entry called "Calendar, Contacts and Files" subtext WebDAV. Trying to add my own domain account hosted on Purelymail fails.

Interestingly when adding my purelymail account as a collections account in Evolution it works fine with the contacts and calendar apps as well, but supporting the online accounts way of adding it would be really nice for ergonomics for less tech-savvy users.

Last time I looked into this, I think my conclusion was that it was an issue with GNOME: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-online-accounts/-/issues/105

Basically I think they hardcoded for Nextcloud and then later just changed the name to "WebDAV", but they're using the fundamentally wrong path. The later comments indicate this is supposed to be fixed, but it might not be in the GNOME you or I are using yet...?

Thank you for the reply.

I'm not sure about that, but it does allow one to specify the server URL. I'm don't know what format to use for the URL and any way I tried it didn't work. I'm on NixOS 24.11 so it is at least a lot more up to date than Ubuntu.

I think perhaps the fix they did was adding this WebDAV option which I'm referencing. It's at least separate from the nextcloud option in online accounts.

It's possible that Gnome 47 (which NixOS 24.11 uses) has the fix and a different issue now. Probably I'll have to wait until I get Gnome 47 on my own backwards Ubuntu to test if it's doing the same thing or not.

FWIW this still does not work on GNOME 47 as of today. The GNOME 48 upgrade for NixOS is gonna take a bit so I can't confirm if it's solved there.

I am on CachyOS, can confirm this is NOT working on GNOME 48.

Just want to say that as of 2025-11-12 this still does not work on GNOME 48.
