Very slow backup speed when using mbsync or "Mailstore Home"

Open derekgair opened this issue 10 months ago • 2 comments

I am trying to create an offline backup of my emails on purelymail.com. I've tried a few approaches now including using mbsync (linux), Mailstore Home (windows) and offlineimap (linux) however they are all extremely slow. They all seem to retrieve emails from imap at about 1 or 2 emails per minute (or worse). I am starting to believe that the access is somehow throttled? Is that the case? In the past I have used the import/export tool but I don't really want to open up any ports on my local host.

Possibly. There's an IMAP bandwidth rate limit per account (on outgoing IMAP) which you might hit making large offline backups. I can fix it for your account (maybe email me with your address), although the notification that you hit the rate limit needs to be improved.

(The reason for the bandwidth rate limit is both that AWS makes out-bandwidth fairly expensive and sometimes email clients get stuck in forever loops continuously querying the server, but it's not really intended to be a speedbump for efficient backups.)

Thanks for the info! I'll email my email address.
