Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Settings app cannot authenticate to IMAP servers

Trying connect Purelymail IMAP accounts to Ubuntu (in Settings, aka gnome-control-center) results in Ubuntu throwing errors that may be a compatibility error. From the syslog:

2024-10-02T17:59:39.047991-04:00 spider gnome-control-c[1537751]: goa_mail_auth_run() failed: Unexpected response `A001 BAD LOGIN failed. Illegal arguments.' while doing LOGIN authentication (goa-error-quark, 0)

The same credentials work easily with Thunderbird and Evolution. I've opened a bug with Ubuntu, and additional information that Purelymail can provide would be appreciated.
