Datasets Type

We have different kinds of "derived" datasets, which we would like to specify in the respective field when uploading. That worked for quite a while, until we've decided to modify some minor things(like structure of metadata). The entries did not exist in the API under the "DerivedDatasets", but only under the "datasets". If we use the type "derived" instead it's accessible in both datsets. So as I understand, the entry in the DerivedDatasets is created automatically, if the type is "derived" and nothing else. I wonder if there's a solution to keep more specific definition of type, but still accessible in the API under the Derived Datasets.
