Clipcascade monitoring service constantly inactive on Android 14
Hi Sathvik,
I have the problem that the ClipCascade Service on Android is constantly nagging (about every 10 mins) that the ClipCascade monitoring is inactive.
Can you tell me what to do to fix this?
the adb commands are already used, battery optimization is at unrestricted, the app runs in the background according to the task manager:
Device: Samsung Galaxy A55S 5G Android 14 Patch Level 2025-03
I face the same issue on Samsung Galaxy S24, were you able to solve it @Kahz3l?
Unfortunately not, I use KDE connect for now.
Hello guys,
Apologies for the delay, I’ve been quite busy and wasn’t able to look into this issue earlier. Are you guys using P2P or P2S mode? It’s possible that Samsung has introduced some restrictions on foreground tasks. I’ll take a look into it, but it might take some time.
Thanks, I will also experiment with different scenarios and get back to you if I find something interesting.
Don't know if its useful, but I have other apps with no battery restrictions/optimizations, and from my experience, they also get closed if not used for a while. Had no issues on my old Pixel 3a, on my Samsung A35 I had to adapt to that behaviour. This morning I found Clipcascade deactivated a few minutes after the first activation. Now it's been an hour and it did not deactivate.
Forgot to say: ClipCascade is really good!
Same here with my Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 without battery restrictions. Maybe it would help if ClipCascade would get its permissions through Shizuku.
running graphene OS, i get it once every few days. it was a lot worse on samsung, but some method to keep it active, like shizuku/sui would be nice.
@applesoff @jorbig @ragnarblackmane @underline9396 @Kahz3l ClipCascade v3.1.0 is now released. The Android app uses less memory and the monitoring service should no longer be terminated or go inactive. Please update and let me know if the issue still occurs.

Unfortunately still occurs with the new version:
Important to know is that when this happens nothing will work even sharing via "Share - Clipcascade" does not.
Is there a possibility to generate logs for you on Android? Thanks for trying though!
@Kahz3l
The background service typically gets killed in only two cases:
-
When Android terminates possibly due to Doze mode or memory management. I'm still investigating this.
-
When the app receives extremely large clipboard content.
To help prevent the second case, try setting the "Maximum Clipboard Size (Local Limit)" to limit oversized text or files. I use a value of 900,000 bytes, which has been effective in avoiding crashes (some android devices have max clipboard size of 1mb in text).
If the issue still persists, try disabling "Enable Periodic Checks". While this will remove the persistent notification, check if the service actually gets killed when you reopen the app after several hours or days.
In my case, the app occasionally stops overnight, likely due to Android’s sleep behavior - I’m continuing to investigate this as well.
I’m using Pixel, and it’s still running strong.
I also use a pixel and I have to reset it nearly daily.
@applesoff Which Pixel device do you use? Are you running the latest 3.1.0 version of the app? Have you set the Maximum Clipboard Size (Local Limit)? Are you using the server in P2P or P2S mode?
I am using Clipcascade latest version with Samsung Ultra 25 with UI 7 and i have the same problem. Unrestricted battery usage, and keeps sending a message that ClipCascade is monitoring is inactive. Very annoying !!
@swbb I tested this on a Samsung device and saw the inactive message appear even when the app was running. Please try disabling Enable Periodic Check on the login page. I’ll look into what’s causing it in Samsung devices and release a fix once I know more.
In the Android app there is no Enable Periodic Check on the login page.
Best regards, David

@swbb Android App -> login page -> enable extra config -> enable periodic checks -> Disable that checkbox
Sorry for the long silence, I tried several things now on my Samsung phone:
- Limit size of Clipboard to 900,000
- Server is in P2P mode
- I have not disabled the notification because it is actually useful to know that it stopped working (the service is actually really killed)
The message pops up that it is inactive, but when I paste something it still works .....

It doesn't work for me unfortunately, if it tells me the service is inactive, it is really killed and does not work. I also tried using the serverside mode with CC_P2P_ENABLED=false, this also does not work.
More info for you. When the android program has a notification that it stopped, The android phone still can receive copied text from my PC However, when I copy text on my android it does not transfer to the PC.

Can you add version info to the app page? I just started using ClipCascade a couple days ago. Ran into this same issue. Came here searching and found this posted issue.
I was nearly sure I had the latest version. But had to download it again to be sure.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 here.
