Microphone does not work on Linux

despite microphones being detected during startup:

Mics: default [default]|Intel [plughw:0,0]|Intel [plughw:0,1]|Intel [plughw:0,2]|Webcam [plughw:4,0]

there is none selected later:

Selecting Mic:

and Test microphone gives Capture device not found:. Arch Linux, 64bit. Tried with both OpenJDK and Oracle Java

same problem seen on Ubuntu notebook and single internal microphone

Don't have Linux anymore, can someone else confirm this issue?

I have Kubuntu 20.04 and don't work. The window appear like this
