Specification examples use C11 upstream, but not in SOS

As seen in #931, the spec-examples occasionally use the typed C interfaces in SOS, but their C11 equivalents in the specification. It might be nice to resolve this so we can take the upstream tests verbatim, but I'm filing as low priority for now.

Also note there are several v1.5 formatting changes to the upstream examples, filename differences, and differing return values, etc.

We can target resolving this for v.1.5.1.
