The application freezes, in what state is it left frozen?

Has the website loaded? Is it a blank screen?

Please provide a screenshot.

When the application freezes, the interface becomes completely unresponsive. Buttons and menus are visible but cannot be clicked or interacted with.

Alright, so it's as if an invisible barrier is preventing you from interacting with the website you could say?

What happens if you control the app using the protocol?

Yes, it does feel like an invisible barrier is preventing interaction with the application. I can use the application normally for the first 5 seconds after launching it. The freezing issue starts after this brief period, and after that, even the music playback timer freezes.

I didn't know the protocol you mentioned, so I haven't tried controlling the app using it. I can attempt it and share the results if you could provide more details or guidance about the protocol.

The protocol I am referring to is a uri protocol, if everything is setup correctly then you can visit the url youtubemusic://playPause and it would toggle play/pause, think of it as a shortcut.

I think I found the issue. Regarding how I identified the issue: I noticed through Task Manager that the application utilises GPU 1, which is my discrete graphics card. I remember that is only a recent change on my computer. The problem still persists. You can see the problem in the video:

I have an same issue. My graphics card is rx6600 and in bios my internal graphics card is disabled (automatically)

Same problem for me. Started today. I've tried to use youtubemusic://playPause but nothing happened. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, I've tried to use portable version, I've tried 3.7.4 and 3.7.2 versions. All behave the same. I've tried to switch from main GPU to the integrated one - also nothing changed.

Also, the symptom is that the app constantly use almost full CPU core.

I was able in the first 5 seconds to click the playlist. After a minute it opened and the app seemed to be unfrozen. I was able to click the song and it started playing, but the window froze again. Even the red scroll bar from the song is not updating. The song played for ~10 second and then stopped.

I had the same issue, but I managed to fix it by completely uninstalling the app and removing all leftover files before reinstalling. After doing that, it worked fine for me. There are also videos showing how to remove leftover files completely. Hope this helps!

Yes, thank you! I went to roaming folder and deleted it. Now the app works!

Glad to hear that! If I could help, that makes me happy. Enjoy using the app!

I've had the same issue and pausing using this method fixed it. I had to visit the url in Chromium, in Firefox it didn't work. I think it was the notifications plugin.

same issue on macos, i've uninstalled, re-installed (via brew) and it's still not working.

++i've been using youtube music on this laptop for over a year and it's mostly worked fine, this behavior just started today.

i've tried youtubemusic://playPause from chrome. I get a prompt from the browser to open youtube music app, and the app is brought to the foreground, but it doesn't change the app state.

Other odd behaviors:

  • Sometimes when i restart the app I can hover over an album and the play widget will appear and I can click it, but music does not play.
  • While I'm not able to click anything inside the youtube music app, scrolling the mouse over the main window area will often scroll the contents. This seems to break after I've tried the youtubemusic://playPause call though..

i'm on macos 15.5, M2 pro, 32gb..

I can repro a freeze on startup for a solid 3 minutes, on Linux, Wayland, as well as a freeze on every single song load. Uncertain if it's under the same bug though.
