General issues
I have several problems so it's better them to be in the general reposity
-
Direct3D is laggy as hell, but I think it is a general problem with Serious Sam
-
In Fullscreen it is a chore to even start the game as often I get a black screen and so I have to exit and enter again to see the game, this happens also when loading maps
-
Some maps crash, it seems to be specific so it is a guess, it is a chore again as when I have to load the map it may or may not crash the game
-
Some maps won't load at all unless you have the 'mod' setting off, again this is specific
-
Not all Revolution custom maps will load, this is specific again
In case it is needded I will search for the maps that have those issues, because in some of them it's so annoying to play while others is very good with no issues at all
-
I cannot say anything about the graphics APIs as I don't know how graphics work under the hood. If you have the same problems without using the patch, then it's not it.
If you have a CPU with integrated graphics, the game might be using those for some reason and you should see what it's using in Video Options. In this case try this solution: https://github.com/SamClassicPatch/SuperProject/issues/12#issuecomment-2335110890 -
I don't quite understand the issue with fullscreen. I need more information or at least reproduction steps.
-
Sometimes the game can get in a buggy state and crash on any first map load. It's pretty much a gamble and I'm not 100% sure what causes this. It might be related to https://github.com/SamClassicPatch/SuperProject/issues/22
-
If it's vanilla maps that cannot be loaded and not Revolution maps, then it would be nice to know which ones, so I could test them.
-
Currently, survival maps and maps with
Vehicleentity are not supported and maybe some other rarer ones. Again, would be nice to know which ones.
-
I have a PC that can run Sam 2 perfectly so dunno, I have an Intel Iris Xe as a graphics card
-
Basically when I load up the game or a map I get a black screen and I cannot see anything although the game keeps running, so when I load some maps I constantly have to press the Home button and then get again, resulting in several seconds wasted for the gameplay
3 and 4) This happens in maps like Ascension for TFE or Secrets of Glacial Mines for TFE, resulting in countless deaths because of this, the game may crash or not when loading certain maps; it will not load at all unless I use the vanilla settings, thus not having modified console or Netricsa message scaled up for ecxample, in maps like Merciless Medieval Soviet Map Pack. As for Revolution, for example the LOTB mod for Revolution (the one that's LOTB in classic style) will not load the first level unless you manage the files, then I remember other map but I have to retry them all though
Classics aren't designed for integrated graphics and the entire game runs on a single core. These are the main reasons for the lags. Never tried Sam 2 on an integrated GPU, so I can't compare them. I imagine its engine is better optimized for such setups.
I cannot recommend any specific graphics options to gain extra FPS but I know for a fact that the game performs fine with a discrete GPU.
The fullscreen issue still confuses me, I've never heard about something like that before. Can only recommend borderless window mode.
Thanks, yeah, it is weird considering that Serious Sam classics, a game from the 2000s, gives me such trouble on a PC that can run Sam 3 too with middle graphical quality, I will have to find a compromise, I hope for the new updates to fix these issues eventually
If you're experiencing input lag when turning the mouse, are you sure Sharp turning is enabled in the player setup for your player? Note that it's only effective in first person, not third person.
Serious Sam 2 and later always have sharp turning enabled (there is no way to disable it).
The imputs are fine, I'm talking about FPS drops in maps like Elephantine, which is strange considering it is purely Egypt with no extra elements, it is probably because of the extreme graphics option, which isn't the best as it is laggy, while normal or qualitt graphica are better
