Auto open download

I would like to see an option to automatically open a downloaded file. Our aim is to have for example an Excel sheet in which a user has to enter some information. This information is then calculated and the student has to enter the result of the calculation in moodle. The workflow would be that much easier, if the downloaded file where to be automatically opened. Is this possible?
