Program crashed while changing networks

Open mrdukejan opened this issue 8 years ago • 11 comments

When I switch from networks the apps crashed. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it can lead to missing Pokemon.

It is mostly annoying when you start your journey and walk outside, still connected to your in-home wifi connection or work wifi connection. When you get out of reach the apps doesn't understand it anymore and wants to restart the app. (which is in my opinion a good default solution)

Device info

  • Nokia Lumia 950XL
  • App version: 1.0.29

Steps to reproduce

Just connect to your inhome wifi connection and walk out of reach of that network.

Actual behavior

The app stops working

Expected behavior

There must be a way to tell the app to use the 3/4G connection when the wireless network is out of reach.

Im pretty certain this was fixed in .29. You might wanna close this.

Kaantantr, I am sorry, I had the wrong version in my description. Unfortunatly this issue still exists on my phone. If I am the only one with this issue it can be closed.

@kaantantr I'm using a commit pretty close to the head (ae115fc) and I still see this issue when switching networks. Especially WiFi to 4G. I Don't seem to notice it the other way around though, I haven't tested extensively. Lumia 930 here.

Hmm weird. Running .29 on L950 and dont have this issue. Well, I guess devs need to have a look at this again.

This also might be related to "sticking" to wifi or "getting friendzoned" by it: you are in range but can't get any more valid packets. As a workaround for every single app I disable wifi before leaving home just to be sure

@zakius maybe you have a point regarding the restart notification issue.

However if you open PoGo while on WiFi then bring down the action bar and disconnect WiFi manually for me that doesn't notify me of any issues. It doesn't seem to recover the connection either so I am left with a map and no stops/pokemon etc. Then from this state if you use the action bar again and re-attach the WiFi the game often crashes with no warnings.

For me this is all pretty minor and there are work arounds.

I generally turn wi-fi off before leaving home, and I have no such problem anymore.

To my knowledge, we are not handling network changing properly yet. This is a known issue.

Might be a different problem, but I got flagged and IP banned several times when leaving a WiFi network and switching to 3G. If i can confidently reproduce it ill post a separate Issue thread describing the bug in more detail.

Can anybody confirm, that changing network could result in ban? I don't belive so. But if so we should restart the app or sign out the user.
