ESPM Propane Meter -- overlapping data error -- can we improve the message?

Open RDmitchell opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Describe the bug

I have an ESPM file that has meter data for Electricity and Propane. The electricity data imports, but the propane doesn't because of an error "Overlapping readings".

Expected Behavior

I see that there are 3 propane records for the same date -- can we have a better message that might indicate what the overlapping readings are?

Actual Behavior

see bug description

Steps to Reproduce

  • Import this ESPM file Jemez Day School wMeters-ESPM.xlsx image

  • First import the building data, then import the meter data image image

  • Mapping image

  • Then import the meter data in the 2nd step of import image

  • The program shows that it understands the Propane meter data image

  • in the results modal, there is an error saying "Overlapping readings" -- what does that mean? image

  • Looking at the data, I think I see the issue -- 3/1/2021 has 3 different records. image

So I guess my only comment is that it would be nice to have a more informational message, ie, something like "Overlapping readings: 3/1/2021" or something like that.

I am also adding a documentation label to this and assigning it to myself, so that I can remember to write this up in the user manual, ie, how to fix this problem when it comes up.

I'm actually surprised that ESPM allows this to happen, ie, user entering 3 different values for the same period

@isalanglois -- This is still an issue -- not sure how hard it would be to show the overlapping readings. Maybe someone could weigh in on that, and if it's too hard, we can close this issue. Otherwise maybe set it to low priority ??

I am going to make a separate issue for myself to document this problem for the users.
