Shin Megami Tensei V - 010063B012DC6000

Open GamerzHell9137 opened this issue 2 years ago • 21 comments

Game Name

Game Update Version : v1.0.1

Current on master : Build Version : 1.0.7103

The game is running great. Its using a lot of Bindless Textures which are not cached atm but Nvidia's Shader Cache is pulling most of the weight which is fine

Hardware Specs :

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3600
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 960 2 GB VRAM
RAM: 16GB

Outstanding Issues:

-Game might sometimes flash a frame from the Garbage Collector(?)
-Huge FPS drops at certain places with 100% FIFO
-After cutscenes, the resolution drops down to the cutscene resolution and doesn't reset back. Restarting the emulation fixes it.

Currently seeing a lot of black textures on the overworld map and main characters (but not the 'faceless' background characters) appear to be shaded much darker than they should be based on console footage

I launched it again and left the emulator running for a few minutes after the black screen showed up and got this:

UE4 games abort if they don't get any response from the GPU within 2 minutes. I believe the GPU thread simply locked up.

Basically, in this area here(and so far only here), there seems to be a really annoying blue light filter. It's so intense that it's actually uncomfortable to look at. Weirdly enough, it only appears when the camera is panned in a specific direction, but if we would take the 360°, around 270° would be with the blue filter. Idk if it's the lighting in the way it's supposed to be or an emulator thing. The FPS also drops quite a bit from 60 to 48~52 whenever the blue filter is visible. Aside from this I've not come across any issues whatsoever, the game even runs like absolute butter and it's beautiful.

Below are comparison screenshots, I'm in the same location, didn't move an inch. Just the camera angle is different.

Iirc the blue light filter isn't a bug. About FPS drop, if you're standing in the problematic place and open the map, the low FPS will continue even there. Seems like the stuff that's dropping FPS is still in the background running. And i've finally caught the transitioning issue so i'll add that to the main post.

Hi, So the only experience I've ever had with emulation was a Nintendo DS Emulator in 2020. Needless to say I'm a bloody beginner when it comes to this stuff.

I downloaded SMT V and expected to be met with problems so grave that i couldnt even think about playing through the game. To my surprise though this thing runs pretty smooth, with the occasional frame drop here and there, in rare cases maybe with an audio glitch. But overall it runs pretty fine and also looks pretty good.

The only "workaround" i needed to do (if you want to call it that) is turn off Vsync. Thats about the biggest one i could come up with. Everything else should be pretty much the same for me. (also i know this sounds like a product review but i really was surprised how easy this was to run, including the Ryunjinx setup)

Anyway, Heres' some stats:

OS: Windows 10 Build 19042.1466 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor @ 3.60 GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super RAM: 16GB

Ryujinx Build: 1.1.15 System Firmware: 13.2.1 Game version: 1.0.2 DLC: 9 Installed Mods : None

This probably doesnt technicaly count as "Issue" with the game but i really wanna thank the people that make this possible, including the ones in the threads sharing their experience. (and who knows, maybe someone can get useful info out of this post xD)

Have a good day

I'm about 10-12 hours into the game and everything has been working pretty well! The biggest issue I've come across is performance in Da'at Shinagawa. The container yard seems to be hanging around in the 20-30 fps range with some stutters. Whereas the first area of the game I was nearly was consistently over 60fps with only some loading or shader cashe stutters, but otherwise it was butter smooth. Could this just be due to the Container Yard being more complex or some other reason? Has anyone found a way of smoothing the frame rate in this part?

I tried turning down the rendering resolution from 2x to native, but this only netted around a 2-5 fps improvement. Otherwise everything else is default settings. ContainerYard1

I am also experiencing the same issue as @drednoot above. The game crashes with memory management set to "Host" or "Host unchecked". But does boot in Software mode, however it then struggles to even maintain 30fps.

When attempting to start the game, I get a black screen and Ryujinx eventually closes, leaving an "Out of memory" error in the terminal. As I have 32GB of ram, it seems unlikely that Ryujinx is actually running out of memory, and it appears to only be consuming about 3-4GB of ram at the time of crashing.

Unfortunately I'm not entirely sure when this issue popped up, as the last time I ran SMT V was when it launched in November.

For all I know it might not be Ryujinx's fault. Maybe it does something that triggers the OOM-killer in newer Linux kernels or similar?

In-game NPCs and objects may flicker randomly and cutscenes are either broken or have graphical issues with Vulkan. OpenGL doesn't have these problems.

Broken cutscene right at the beginning of the game: 4

Works fine with OpenGL: 6

Hello everyone, first of all thanks for making such an awesome emulator, this game runs much better on Ryujinx than Yuzu on my PC: I3-10100F RX 6500XT 16GB RAM

The problem i encountered is a lot of flickering textures in some scenarios, its the only issue apart from some stuttering here and there. Here is a video showing the problem, im using the VULKAN renderer btw, OPENGL crashes for me, idk why,

Game works great overall. No texture issues with the demons and I haven't seen any of the flickering or blue lights reported by others. Audio occasionally freezes for a couple of seconds, which mostly isn't a big deal except for in cutscenes where the audio becomes out of sync with the subtitles and the characters' mouth movements. Currently using SDL2 as the audio backend, but I will try the others out as well to see if it resolves the issue.

The only crash/freeze I've had was after getting a "game over" and the game got stuck on the subsequent black screen. I've yet to test that again so I'm unsure if it's consistent.

Not specific to this game, but it absolutely amazes me how smooth the experience has been with Ryujinx on the Mac. Every game I've tried so far has worked great without any major issues.

blacktide082 avatar Jan 08 '23 05:01 blacktide082

It seems im the only one with the issue i posted above? those flickering textures are really annoying. Maybe its related to AMD drivers... Can someone give me some guidance?

Ghaleon7771 avatar Jan 28 '23 16:01 Ghaleon7771

Flickering textures are still present on AMD hardware as of 1.1.633 and they affect both vulkan and opengl on both linux and windows and on every driver. There seems to be no way to work around it either.

Game runs fine in my experience so far, although the SDL2 audio backend experiences crackles in battle during some attacks, more commonly when an enemy attacks the player (but not always). Slime enemies near the start cause this issue consistently. Here’s an example video:

https://youtu.be/ZhJh1u03pEk

This issue does not occur when using the OpenAL audio backend, where all appears to be working properly.

Ryujinx version is 1.1.924. Game version is 1.0.2 US with all DLC except the Japanese voice pack installed. Graphics backend is Vulkan (if that somehow matters for this issue). Specs are:
