@sambarlick sounds more like an issue with the TuYa integration. Have you tried doing a color temperature and brightness change with the _light turn on_ service call?

Not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Can you show us which automation / service calls you're using and how your adaptive_lighting is configured?

No idea actually. But I'm sure I'll take a look at it when I do the refactoring/rewriting of this part for version 2 :)
