This is going to depend heavily on what you're trying to log into.

Generally speaking, though,"academic email" generally means using an email address that has been provided by your university/college/academic institution. These are identified by having a domain (the part after the @ symbol) which is controlled by and is exclusive to that institution. Domains from an internet provider or a general email host generally don't count, even if it is your official university email. (The reason is that the domain is used to tell if you have an affiliation with the university. Just having a gmail.com address doesn't prove anything about the university you attend.)

How to address the issue will depend on what you're attempting to log in to. For example, Google Colab is controlled by Google, and has its own rules and regulations about who can sign up for what. (And we can only provide a limited amount of help about it.) If you're talking about ROSIE, access to that is controlled by the Rosetta Commons, and if your email isn't being recognized, you should open a discussion at https://github.com/RosettaCommons/rosetta/discussions. However, access to ROSIE is controlled at the domain level, so you would need to use a university-provided email with a university-specific domain name.
