V3 ETA?

Open pumkapie opened this issue 3 years ago • 12 comments

I know how much work developing this software must be, but I'm starting to lose it with the relentless YouTube ads.

I've been checking here every other day for the last 3 or so weeks, but is there any ballpark timeline on when the release might be?

Keep up the awesome work.

if it's only for youtube, you could check this one out, for me this one did wonders,

https://www.webosbrew.org/

Alternative method, if your TV is not vulnerable to RootMyTV exploit chain, is to enable Developer Mode on a TV and then use our Device Manager app.

This tool also provides you with info about how to renew your devmode session on a daily basis.

I agree with bkbartk. I'm using YouTube AdFree without root. It's really not difficult to set up at all. One additional note: To install YouTube AdFree, you first have to uninstall the official YouTube app.

This project is dead right?

ag14774 avatar Oct 06 '22 17:10 ag14774

Maybe not. July 2nd. The trouble shooting page was created and look. https://github.com/RootMyTV/RootMyTV.github.io/blob/main/docs/TROUBLESHOOTING.md#tv-reboots-but-homebrew-channel-is-missing Probably the developers haven’t found a new exploit yet. This can sometime take some serious time.

In July they said it would be a month: https://github.com/RootMyTV/RootMyTV.github.io/issues/38#issuecomment-1179684769

So maybe the exploit didn't work in the end

ag14774 avatar Oct 06 '22 19:10 ag14774

They've said that the actual coding and technical discussion is not done on GitHub, because it would make it easier to patch the exploit before it can even be deployed. I do believe there is a third exploit, but whether it applies to every device or even a wide range of devices is an open question.

LG never fixes any actual bugs past the first year of the TV release. it is safe to disable updates and use the exploit afterward.

LG ONLY pushes updates when the community finds a way to remove ads.

I hope this project isn’t dead, as some fear. I’m wanting to take advantage of it and install hyperhdr and piccap to set up an Ambilight. I’m not the most techy person, and I’d prefer to avoid having to run devmode timer reset scripts to keep things running.

Could be that LG fixed the most obvious exploits and the rootmytv devs can't find any other vulnerability, which is good.

The old exploit worked after only allowing a website to store a file.

LG should just come up with an officially blessed way that allows full root access over ssh. Bonus points if it is usable without having an LG account. Hell, I would even be fine with a UART header hidden behind a cover.

I payed a ton of money for my LG TV and the hardware is awesome, but LG is actively hindering us at using the hardware to its fullest potential.

Do not use LG products. F*ck LG!

After a 9 month shipping delay, I finally have my exploitable TV in my hand again, I've been looking forward to playing with this.

I turned to my partner and said, "oh, if the TV asks you to update the..." and he just looks at me..

Updated literally just 5 minutes ago. FML.

That sucks.

I upgraded my TV after I had some issues with DoVi content back in June. Not only did the upgrade not fix the problem, but I can't even downgrade due to me not finding any old firmware archive for my TV.

Worst decision ever.
