is Rasbian STRETCH required or can I use the latest rasbian Image?

I wanna ask if i can use the latest rasbian Image instead of the Stretch release.

Did I must use stretch?

I used Buster legacy and in the install.sh I removed (or comment) the part where it checks if the Raspbian is Stretch or Jessie.

Installation completed without error but have not yet fully tested it.
