Feature Request: Auto-scroll to Latest Chat After Checking Previous Messages

Open himgaur2004 opened this issue 10 months ago • 5 comments

Description: Currently, when users scroll up to check previous messages in Rocket.Chat, they have to manually scroll back down to reach the latest chat. This becomes inconvenient, especially in active conversations where new messages keep coming in.

Suggested Feature: Add a "Jump to Latest" button or an automatic scroll feature that appears after scrolling up. When clicked, it should take the user directly to the latest message without excessive scrolling.

Benefits: Enhances user experience by reducing unnecessary scrolling. Useful for active chats where messages accumulate quickly. Improves accessibility for mobile and desktop users.

Steps to Reproduce:

1.) Open a chat in Rocket.Chat. 2.)Scroll up to check older messages. 3.) New messages arrive, but the user has to scroll manually to reach the latest chat.

Expected Behavior:

A button (or auto-scroll option) should appear to instantly bring the user to the latest chat.

Would you like me to refine this further or assist with submitting it to their GitHub repository? 🚀

Pretty sure this has been asked before.

Please search VERY carefully both here and in the feature-requests repo

I have carefully checked the feature requests, and while I found multiple requests related to 'Jump to Message,' those are primarily focused on navigating to messages from files or links. However, my request is specifically about quickly jumping from older messages back to the latest chat, reducing the need for excessive scrolling. Let me know if you need any further clarification!

First, it is a NFR so should really be in this repo:

https://github.com/RocketChat/feature-requests

If you have read the messages on Rocket GSoC you will know that you should wait until the team have checked if they actually want this.

Many are away this week so it may take several days to get an answer so be patient.
