feature-requests [Improvement] Add ability to users to delete their DMs

Description:

Regular users must have ability to delete their personal chats (Direct Messages) same way as private chats owners can delete their chats. That basic functionality persist in all popular messengers like Telegram and WhatsApp, and IMHO, Rocket.Chat must have it to be best!

Expected behavior:

Users must be able to delete their DM (both side)

Actual behavior:

Users have no way to delete their DM. Only Hide, which actually don't delete anything, only hide chat from list. Only Admin can delete users DM from Admin UI.

Is related to RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#7162 and RocketChat/Rocket.Chat#14986

The function is needed due to data protection in the EU!

This has been possible in the early versions... I really don't get why it has been taken away instead of making it depending on permission.

We have permission delete-d - it should be possible to check if user-group has that right and then add the possibility to delete the direct room.

@ankar84 I meant it was never a high request from the community, we have many other requests that are having much more attention. But we are open to accepting contributions on this feature if it's optional and disabled by default. Or if you have a link to any existing contributions on this matter let me know.

@rodrigok if a four year long GitHub issue is not "high" community request, what is?

"Contributions welcome" I.e. build it yourself suggestions are unhelpful here, clearly this is something that is difficult to implement given the fact that it has been ignored for years. A discussion as to how an implementation might work is far more valuable than this taking another four years to implement.

@colinmasters issues with more votes and interactions from the community are "higher" than this one. It's not about how old, but how requested a feature is.

It's not a hard thing to implement, that was not the reason behind it not being implemented yet, but an understatement from our side that this was not the ideal behavior, but if the community is willing to implement it as an option disabled but default I believe we can accept it.

@milton-rucks do you have thoughts to share here?

We have several users asking for this option. For us it is not important if the option is enabled or disabled by default. To have the ability to delete personal chats is that what is wanted.
