Notifications not working

Open binaryz3r0 opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

Hello and Happy new Year everyone!!!

We are currently running Rocket.chat version 3.9.11 in Windows, and notifications are not working.

Things Tried: Clear Cache Clear Storage Data Remove Server Full reinstallation of rocket Server Reboot

None of them worked. Any suggestion?

Thanks.

Same version, same issue - no popup on Desktop, no indication in tray icon. In settings, under notifications, there is a button to test desktop notification, and clicking it does nothing. It seems that the whole notification mechanism is broken.

Hello! Dekstop application version 3.9.11, server version 6.5.3 - notifications don't work for some users. As I understand it happened after disabling pro trial and reverting to community version.

We have the same problem but reinstalling the client e.g. to version 3.9.9 and logging out and in a few times causes the notifications to return. Button to test notifications must appear in user preferences. In the register must also be this entry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings\chat.rocket] "Enabled"=dword:00000001

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

That didn't work for us.

Our solution:

  • Downgrade version server to 6.4.9
  • Update client to 3.9.11 and 3.9.12

Notifications work, but it's all just until the end of March 2024. We're waiting for the fixes.

Yesterday just notifications disappeared on version 3.9.11 helped by installing version 3.9.12 logging out and logging back in and notifications appeared. Server version 6.5.2. :-)

I'm facing similar issues on Rocket.Chat, likely after updating to 6.6.0 or after changing from Community to Starter plan.

a) When using the browser, I don't get any notification sounds, neither in channels nor in direct messages. I can select sounds fine, they will also play in preview (except "Default"). They will just not play when needed. b) On Rocket.Chat Android App 4.46.1.57002 I no longer get notified at all. Wow! c) If creating a brand new user, I get notification sounds from that user's direct messages until I interact with the direct message window (e.g. clicking on it). After that, no more notification sounds ever (yes, muting active conversations is disabled, and I changed to a different chat window before testing). d) The new user will not face any issues like this and will hear notification sounds as expected. I have only tested browser sessions with the new user, not the Rocket.Chat Android app. e) I've received no reports of other users on this instance with the same problem, but that doesn't mean I'm definitely the only one, maybe other employees just haven't noticed the same issue yet. Testing with a co-worker and test accounts shows me that not everyone is affected at all. f) I don't seem to have the same issue on a test instance, same type of deployment, same config, same version.

There is no personal configuration that would prevent being notified. Just in theory, I may be the only one on this instance with this problem because a) I am the only admin user b) I might be the only user who has made personal changes to Sounds at least once (to shut it up during livestreams). Is there a way to revert personal settings to server defaults to revert any custom personal settings that may now be stuck?

I'm starting to get scared with every Rocket.Chat update. v6.6.0 has yet again been an update showcasing issues with basic features that were not tested. This specific issue is now catastrophic for me, I am forced to sit behind the PC and watch the browser tab so I will ever realize somebody contacts me. The last thing I want to resort to is creating a new account for myself, because goodbye to years of searchable chat history.

Is there an actual downgrade option yet to 6.5.x when using docker? Anyone have any hints what to try to revive notifications for my admin account? I've tried fiddling with personal notification settings, relogging, using different browsers - until I realized the Android App, even using a different uplink, will completely refuse to send me any notifications at all. This must be a bug. And to people like me, who rely on Rocket.Chat for being in touch with the rest of the team, this is definitely a critical issue. According to this and some other tickets, I'm not alone. Can a dev please take a look into this?

Tested with Rocket.Chat 6.6.2 installed using docker-compose, NodeJS version v14.21.3 and mongo db 5.0.24.
