It happens on the web browser too?

No, it just happens on the Desktop app

Rocket.Chat Desktop App Version

3.9.4

Rocket.Chat Server Version

6.3.1

Describe the bug

yes we know electron-pdf-window is not actively maintained.

When a attachment is clicked the Electron Desktop App opens the system default browser with the link for the attachment. As the browser is not logged into the rocketchat server the attachment is not showing or downloading.

I can see similar closed issues. https://github.com/RocketChat/Rocket.Chat.Electron/pull/1062

Although there is no way to preview the PDF inside electron app. a download popup or something user friendly will be better instead of opening a external browser which is not logged in.

Any others having the issue ? Directions to fix it .

Thanks .

How to Reproduce

Try to click on the attachment link.

bump, client 3.9.8.

This is not limited to PDFs, but all attached files and their generated previews.

The link is re-routed to the default browser that is not logged in, so returns 403.

Users can click on the "download cloud" icon/button within the client and retrieve the file, but not from the more-prominent preview.

We have exactly the same problem. Unfortunately, she is being ignored.

Each user needs to be explained that they need to press "cloud"

It's really lucky for RocketChat as a company that migrating to another chat solution is such a major PITA that nobody willingly does it.

Otherwise they surely would have no customers left. The amount of terrible terrible UI/UX bugs or missing features is continually mounting with all of them being ignored in favor of adding "features".

why can I only download files? it's impossible just to open them in default applications for these files?
