Exclude files from a folder without excluding any files in subfolders

I would like to be able to exclude files in the root folder but I can't see a way to select it

Excluding a folder currently will exclude all that folder's subfolders as well, so excluding the root folder would exclude all files, that's why it's not possible.

I'll change this issue to a request to be able to exclude only the files inside the folder and not the subfolders, which is a good idea.
