Not more than a hunch, maybe related to OpenGL? When you run the commands from a terminal, do you observe any error messages?

Difficult to say what's going on. That trace looks to me like it's happening on initial rendering or reload, if AAppIconLabel did anything wrong at all, it would have happened...
