self clean start possible?

is it perhaps possible to start a self clean on supported models? It is unfortunately not possible with the app, only with the remote control.

If we know how to do this in the protocol (if possible at all) then we should be. However I dont have such device and therefore am unable to try.

Anything i can do to to check it out or too difficult?

Yeah we need to research if this is actually in the protocol. I havent seen this before, so I cant provide any further information unfortunately.

Since we don't have any information on this, I suggest you create an issue here instead: https://github.com/tomikaa87/gree-remote

It's mostly there that raw information is discovered. I did a little bit of digging and found nothing myself. My guess is that since the unit is off, the wifi module can't do it.

Since you both have experience, there are also guys building esphome modules for gree. Do thry offer more functionality? Also, is there experience with blocking gree ac's from communicating with the internet? Does that work?

Probably, but I wouldn't bet on it.

You can try this repo: https://github.com/emtek-at/GreeAC-DummyServer But it looks old and unmaintained. You probably could just block the servers from your router.
