Perhaps possible to pull kwh consumption data? (and some tips)

Open borgqueenx opened this issue 3 months ago • 4 comments

The gree plus app shows kwh consumption values for my gree Airy mini split. I was wondering if there would be a way to pull these values in home assistant instead of having to use the gree+ app? I am not allowed to use the gree+ app anyway- i have a permanent vpn on and then i only get "bad network" messages.

For the rest, i want to give a tip for the documentation of this integration, i couldn't get the gree airy to work until i switched encryption version to 2. Maybe this can be made automatic to see which version is needed? else added to documentation? furthermore i had to add the airy without vpn connected- my phone and computer could not find a wlan device of the airy.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion on docs. Will consider & look at this.

As for the app: (Assumption) I'm pretty sure this is not coming from the device (never seen these values in the communication with the device). I guess its some kind of predicted value from the app itself based on the specs of your HVAC. Correct me if i'm wrong :).

I know daikin with the faikin module does record kwh consumption but you could be right that gree estimates it, but it does not say anywhere it is a estimation.

My first message was a bit inconplete. I meant to say that to connect the device to wlan i had to use the gree plus app. Your docs say i can connect to the device's wlan in ap mode, but the device does not have a visible ssid. So first connect with gree plus app for connecting the airy to my own router. Then make the ip static in router and use it when connecting in home assistant to your integration. With encryption method set to 2, else it adds the device with entities but nothing works.

Thanks for making the integration!

@borgqueenx Does the gree app really show power consumption for your devices? I thought these fields were shown only when the view was loading and then were hidden (a bug).

No, they show for the gree airy and also got populated with amounts now that i finally used the device for a 10 min period. They are always there, not disappearing or anything. However i blocked the airy from internet and redirected the dns to the gree tls dummy server, and now the device is removed from the gree app. So the gree app is not allowing local control unfortunately.
