Redgifs ripper defaulting to mobile versions.

Open superrob1500 opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

  • Ripme version: 1.7.95
  • Java version: 1.8.0_281-b09 (windows), build 11.0.11+9-Ubuntu-0ubuntu2.18.04 (Ubuntu)
  • Operating system: Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04
  • Exact URL you were trying to rip when the problem occurred: https://www.redgifs.com/watch/imperturbablecloudybullmastiff
  • Please include any additional information about how to reproduce the problem: happens downloading any redgifs.com links

Expected Behavior

Downloads the best high resolution version available for a given link. Filename should be 001_ImperturbableCloudyBullmastiff.mp4

Actual Behavior

As of the last day or two the redgifs ripper has been defaulting to the mobile (smaller, lower quality) versions of found links (when scraping subreddits). Filename comes out as 001_ImperturbableCloudyBullmastiff-mobile.mp4 . Since at the time I cannot determine if this is a ripper issue or a redgifs issue I'm posting regardless.

As of a few days ago it wasn't working with redgifs at all, here's the other issue for that: https://github.com/RipMeApp/ripme/issues/1866

From further investigation through my url history it that they switched to a thumbs2. subdomain now instead of thcf#. like before. I don't know if this is what's causing issues because this switch seems to have happened a while before this current issue manifested. My other theory is that it could be redgifs defaulting to SD (mobile) versions now and the ripper is simply ripping the first URL it finds without discerning. I'm not a coder though so there's isn't really a way for me to test these theories.

I think you are correct, i see that DownloaderForReddit can download the HD version.

Also downloading a redgifs profile (with a little fix because napi.redgifs.com became api.redgifs.com) seem to download hd version.
