Empty files when sending from apps

I tried this on my Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact phone (Android 10). Sending from Telegram or Album, it seems to work but only creates empty files with 1970-year timestamps. Among the apps I tried, it only worked when sending from Files.

Update: my use case is to transfer files between personal and work profiles, so acting as an opener doesn't work for me.
