Can't get to ready any cards

So I did finally get the android APK installed (since the desktop GUI seems to be windows-only, which surprised me, considering)... and I can communicate with my Proxgrind ChameleonTiny without Bluetooth ("ChameleonMini RevG compiled at 2020-02-03 17:22:16(11a8cc5)").

However I can't get it to read any cards. I have tried various commands such as CLONE, DUMP_MFU and IDENTIFY. I have been through every bit of documentation I can find, and I've tried to read several different cards, including my passport, but it always seems to (almost immediately) return with "203: TIMEOUT".

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am now able to connect to the device from my mac directly, I can give commands and see the responses... still, I can't get it to read any card at all. I flashed the latest firmware just in case, but no change. Am I doing something wrong here?! :/

You need to set the config to ISO14443A_READER first as far as I've understood before you can send command for reading (like GETUID, IDENTIFY). For me, it's not clear from the command list, so here's the tip.
