Swappable Kit Pieces (Customizable Instruments)

Open Revisto opened this issue 10 months ago • 4 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The current interface limits users to a fixed set of instruments.

Describe the solution you'd like
Enable users to add, remove, or swap kit pieces.

Describe alternatives you've considered
An alternative would be preset configurations, but direct customization provides more control to the user.

It's maybe not worth letting the user add and remove lanes. Having a fixed number of sounds lets us implement kit presets, while still letting the user swap out individual sounds. It's also a lot easier to implement. Basically I'm imagining ~8 sounds per kit, that you can swap out all at once or individually, like in a typical drum sequencer.

I'll work on some sample sets in the coming week, to start with probably just rock, techno, and epic.

I agree with this for now and also thank you for your interest and contribution, I really appreciate it.

How many lanes do you think it should have? The rock kit I have recorded has:

  1. Kick
  2. Snare
  3. Snare Flam
  4. Tom 1
  5. Tom 2
  6. Tom 3
  7. Hat Closed
  8. Hat Half
  9. Hat Open
  10. Cymbal 1 - Crash
  11. Cymbal 2 - Crash
  12. Cymbal 3 - Ride
  13. Cymbal 4 - Splash

If we omit one cymbal that's a nice round 12. The snare flam can be replaced by a second snare or clap for other genres.

There are additional articulations that are probably not worth including:

  • Snare side stick
  • Snare Rimshot
  • Snare roll
  • Snare ghost
  • Stick clicks
  • HiHat swipe
  • Hihat pedal closed

Hi, I didn't know you recorded the drums yourself that's super cool. We can go with 12 lanes, I kinda like having the snare flam too but I agree having a clap or second snare can be more useful too.
