Shareable links to specific cells or outputs

Problem

Users would like to share a link to specific cell or an output with the teammates. They can ask them to review the specific cell contents or just to show a way something is done.

Considerations

We can easily provide copy-able links for each cell / output but the open issue is how to handle these links when notebook is modified. E.g.

1. Tom copies a link to a specific notebook cell xyz & shares the link with Ana.
2. Evan pushes a new commit which modifies the notebook - and the cell xyz is now deleted / modified / moved elsewhere in the notebook etc.
3. Now Ana clicks the link the next day - where should our UI take her? Tom's originally intended cell xyz does not exist anymore (at least not in its original form)

Solution

Some possible solutions regarding above consideration are below -

• Option 1. Always show the old cell version for which User created the link
• Option 2. If the given cell is modified in any way, mark the link as invalid
• Option 3. Fuzzy match the old cell with the modified cell and show the modified version if match score is beyond a certain threshold, else show old version / say invalid / show new version with a warning & link to the old version etc.

Current workaround

User can write a comment on the cell and share a link to the comment which will always show the cell content as well.
