[addon] Conquer harbor
to fasten the game, harbors should be conquered and not burned down (if harbors dont block)
+1 if addon, maybe as an additional option in the seafaring option dropdownmenu
thats what I thought of:
we also should specify more clearly what each option means.
- [ ] dont block
- [ ] block
Thats right, the "I" doesn't help at all. Don't block: You can attack any enemy military building close to the harbor spot with no limitations Block: You need to destroy the enemy harbor first and then you can attack any enemy military building close to the harbor spot. NOTE: This might be a bad choice depending on map and exploration settings.
Should we think about making this the default behaviour? Currently a habour acts like some kind of HQ - when conquered it is destroyed. When we allow overtaking of a harbour it would act like a (special) military building.
Did this discussion already happen in the past?^^

thats why we should simply make it selectable (and yes perhaps it could be the default)
consequence would be: a harbor is first "active" as soon as at least one soldier has occupied it?
Yes, there have been several discussions... MAYBE: http://www.siedler25.org/index.php?com=forum&mod=forum&action=thread&id=1292 But maybe it was a discussion we held in our IRC channeld, can't remember for sure anymore but as far as I remember this was mainly NastX idea, also he said maybe we could place harbors by default and you just destroy it by overtaking but in order to rebuild, you just have to arrive with an expedition and it'll be instantly repaired. Seafaring depends a lot on mapdesign, and most mapdesigns currently focus on our current seafaring version, thats why changing the default way might not be the best idea but a selectable addon would be great (also if a new version proves itself, the default could be changed :)

This is actually what I would suggest. Harbors are a hybrid between military and storage buildings, but completely lack the military infrastructure. As a result, you usually come up with complicated workarounds, like setting up a storehouse next to it, to quickly move over soldiers before the enemy arrives.
It would be easier to defend if the harbor had soldiers by default, i.e., like a castle, it would be easier to defend. This is getting really complicated, especially if you have multiple harbors to defend. Related: #417
It might be worth exploring/discussing the potential of a "military harbor/military expedition" extension.
