Carousel does not pause when hovering or transitions too fast in some scenarios

While trying to view the RetroOlympics news the carousel kept moving on me even though I was hovering over it. I was able to reproduce the effect various times but the behavior isn't always consistent. Tested in chrome and edge. It seems like it may be related to the logic which gives the first post extra time before transitioning but that's just a guess.
