What is the orientation to print on a standard fdm printer?

Sorry if I have missed this- but its unclear how to orient the model on a standard fdm printer. Any help would be appreciated.

It may be difficult to print on a standard FFF printer without support because it was designed to take advantage of the way that belt printers can print horizontal overhangs. However, the best orientation on a standard FFF printer would be with the second longest dimension in the Z direction.
