Vulkan support on Android

Open JackHCS opened this issue 5 years ago • 15 comments

Recently tried switching our project to experiment with using Vulkan rendering on Android but found that this broke the video playback. On checking the documentation realised that Vulkan still isn't actually supported.

Would like it if the plugin supported Vulkan for rendering, particularly for Android.

Had to do some digging to realise this wasn't a bug as the plugin throws back an event that the video playback has "Stalled" but doesn't seem to return an error stating that Vulkan isn't currently supported. The audio also continues to play for the duration of the missing video making it seem more like a bug. Side note: Vulkan is misspelled as "Vulcan" in the AVPro Video documentation/manual.

Thanks, we'll update the documentation to fix that typo :)

We'll consider adding Vulkan support in the future, but it still isn't very supported...

Hi there! On that topic, we're really interested in Vulkan support for Android - since that conversation was started back in 2019, are there any plans for making it happen in the foreseeable future? The number of devices that support this renderer seems ever increasing, that's why it seems like a good thing to happen. Thanks for your reply!

An update on this would be really nice.

Sorry, but our product decided to say goodbuy to avprovideo, this plugin is good, but vulkan support is of vital importance for us. We need to step forward, and thanks to avpro video to provide us amazing video decode service for a long time. For now, we move forward to ffmpeg native plugin instead.

Sorry to hear you are having to step away from AVPro Video, and thanks for your kind words.

As we have been quite quiet regarding Vulkan support, I can today announce that Android Vulkan support will be arriving with AVPro Video version 3.0. We very much hope to release this major version before the end of the year.

Do you have a rough idea of a date when we can expect AVPro Video v3.0 which will have Vulkan rendering API support?

Any news about this?

An update would be good. Running this in Quest 3 without vulcan is going to add some performance hits I believe

We've been busier than expected with external projects, so the release of AVPro Video version 3 (with Vulkan support) has been delayed. Its looking more likely Q1 or Q2 this year, depending on external projects.

Thanks for the update.

I'm looking forward to the update.

Hi! Any updates when AV Pro will have Vulkan support on Android! Looking forward to it :)

cieraej avatar Feb 21 '24 16:02 cieraej

We're looking at Q2 this year.

Chris-RH avatar Feb 21 '24 17:02 Chris-RH

Woo! Excited. Will they'll be any beta/preview releases prior to then ?

cieraej avatar Feb 21 '24 17:02 cieraej

We've just put up trial versions of the RC for AVPro Video version 3, which supports Vulkan. You can access the trial version here.

Kind regards, Chris

Hello, we've purchased AVPro 3.0.7 version but it says that Vulkan is not supported there. What could be wrong?

dhubenko avatar Jul 29 '24 16:07 dhubenko

Hi @dhubenko,

Vulkan definitely works in AVPro Video version 3.0.7. Where does it say that its not supported?
