Your question
Hello — I’m seeing long buffering delays when playing 10-bit videos with Media Foundation on Windows. Higher resolutions make it worse: an 8K 60 FPS 10-bit file typically buffers for about 5 seconds after each seek before playback resumes. I use SeekFast to perform the seeks; native Windows Media Player shows the same behavior, so I believe the issue is related to Media Foundation itself. I also tried DirectShow with LAV filters but that didn’t help. Are there any known workarounds or settings I should try?
What GPU/CPU are you using? Which codec are you using? Honestly, 8k 60FPS 10-bit, its a lot of data to process. Have you seen if there is any improvement using WinRT? You may want to look into how the video is encoded, if you are planning on doing a lot of seeking.
- CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F (2.50 GHz) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 RAM: 16 GB
- From MediaInfo I see that it is HEVC (H.265) Main [email protected], around 48 Mbps, 8K 60fps.
- I agree, but Oculus Quest 2/3 manages to process it, probably because of downscaling, so I'm looking for ways to do this on Windows too.
- WinRT gives the same results
- I look into documentation, thanks.
