PWM or voltage control?

Open Jonnyjoebo opened this issue 8 months ago • 2 comments

I have some 4 pin white LED fans and noticed they are dimmer than before. Used a fan header to test bios with PWM and voltage to see the brightness difference. With PWM it’s full bright and voltage it’s dim at idle.

So my question is does fan control app use PWM? Is there a way to change it?

FanControl will use either depending on the mode set in the BIOS.

Dev @Rem0o: I've wondered this too. You say it's set in the BIOS, but does Windows, UEFI, or etc. offer an API, or is there a way outside of that BIOS setting, for FanControl to allow the user to choose?

Also: This is purely opinion / suggestion, but this really this is not an issue, but a question, so @Jonnyjoebo, this really belongs in discussions. Dev @Rem0o, maybe we should add a comment to new issue reports that explicitly tells the user that if it's a question about functionality and not a bug or feature request, then it belongs in discussions.? I care about this primarily because I'm looking through the issues to find something that relates to a problem I have and that's a rather tedious task with so many open issues. Additionally, when an issue is determined to be a question, my opinion would be that it should be closed and moved to a discussion, which GitHub allows with a click of a button essentially.
