If opening FireTV or Amazon Music from launcher, the Home button does not reopen the launcher

Open ManOrMonster opened this issue 10 years ago • 16 comments

On a Fire Stick, the launcher seems to quit if you launch the FireTV launcher, because the home button no longer returns to it. Have to launch the app again manually.

Thanks, I'm working on getting a FireTV stick to test this on (hard to get one in Canada)...

Redth avatar Nov 26 '14 20:11 Redth

Hello Redth, this happens to me as well on a FireTV box (not the stick). In very rare cases the home button brings me back to the firedTV but in most cases it will stay on the Amazon home page.

Happens on Fire Stick and Fire TV for me.

I'm having the same problem. I might need to dust off my C# tools and take a look.

chedlin avatar Dec 20 '14 18:12 chedlin

Hello Redth, actually the "home listener" does not work at all for me on the Fire TV box. I can only re-launch the FiredTV UI via the normal procedure of "settings" --> "applications" etc. Otherwise great app!

I'll definetly donate a few bucks if you can fix this!

Did you guys notice that now the Home intercepting is now off by default in the FiredTV Settings? You need to turn it on after installing the app.

Also, the fact that after you go to FireTV home from within FiredTV launcher and the home button no longer returns to FiredTV is by design. I didn't want to put people in a loop of never being able to get back to FireTV... I'm going to see about adding another setting to always return to FiredTV home. Plus, once the app ever makes it into the FireTV store it'll be much less difficult to launch it :)

Did not know this was working as designed ;) An additional setting to always re-route to FiredTV when pressing the homebutton would be great, since I really use FiredTV as a replacement of FireTV! FireTV only as "app".

Thanks

The latest binary release appears to predate that change. I also went through my settings. I have two sticks with this problem. On Dec 23, 2014 2:05 PM, "Jonathan Dick" [email protected] wrote:

This is still an issue in 1.1.4 (plus the FireTV icon is now labeled KFTV and the Settings icon is missing). I understand the need to not relaunch FireTV when switching to the Fire TV home screen, but perhaps a timeout before the home screen takeover resumes etc.

Something else that would reduce the effort of returning to FiredTV after using Amazon Home screen features (music/photos/app store/videos) would be if FiredTV was added to (or fixed?) in the Amazon App Store for Fire TV devices. Then it could be relaunched from the home screen apps list instead of buried in the System / All Applications menus.

For me this is a big issue, I can't use any Amazon features without having to then go through 10 clicks to return to FiredTV.

Hi andyf101,

In the meantime, if you install The Llama app on your FireTV (This can be sideloaded without rooting) then you can set up any app as a ‘sacrificial app’ which, when clicking it’s icon, it launches FiredTVLauncher instead. I used to use this to launch Kodi / XBMC before I had FiredTVLauncher installed.

Once I got FiredTVLauncher set up I set up Llama to launch that instead so I have a clean navigation route through the system.

This article could help you get it set up: http://unlockfiretv.com/launch-xbmc-from-firetvs-main-screen/

Yours, Keith

Firstly, thanks for this - I use this daily as a way to easily access apps on my FTV.

I echo some of the comments above though - a setting to allow the Home key to ALWAYS go to the FiredTV launcher (even when viewing the stock launcher) would be great (assuming it's possible). Personally, I use the stock launcher as a way of accessing Prime content, but really think of it as another app, alongside Kodi, Netflix etc, and would prefer to use the FiredTV launcher as my Home screen at all times....

Keith, thanks for the Llama suggestion, I've gone that route but it's quite a workaround to just having the app in the appstore so that it's on the Home screen and available after using Amazon apps.

One other thing is that FiredTV doesn't launch on startup. Probably not what everyone wants, but a checkbox for this would be great. Extending a BroadcastReceiver with android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED works on FireTV, and they've accepted it in the appstore (with the ability to turn it off).

Thanks again to Jonathan - the app is very useful.

Hi everybody

I'm sorry to ask (I have no experience you this domain), but how do I prevent FiredTV launcher to quit when hitting the home button? Redith says (I quote): "Did you guys notice that now the Home intercepting is now off by default in the FiredTV Settings? You need to turn it on after installing the app"

but honestly I do not find any home intercepting settings or else.

any advice or help?

thank you

Redth, thanks for the great app. I am still using 1.0.3 as it is very stable version, and does what I need - I installed 1.1.5, however, the auto-launch of FiredTV didn't work on startup (can this be changed or atleast a checkbox to give user the ability to select or deselect, please?) Also, once I selected FireTV option and used Amazon apps/movies, I had to re-launch FiredTV app from the applications menu in order to go back. Home button doesn't work very well to relaunch the app automatically.

Couple of bug as stated above, however, aside from that, it is a great app, which I use on my FireTV stick and FireTV box. Thanks a lot for the great work. I really appreciate it.

I didn't realise there was an option to have to set the Home button intercept on by default, I assumed it was already enabled. Where on earth is the FiredTV setting for this? The regular Settings icon literally launches the Amazon Fire TV settings page.

zekepliskin avatar Apr 02 '15 15:04 zekepliskin

Settings of FiredTV can be accessed via the option button on the remote (right of the home button), at least on 1.0.3.

If you have any issues getting FiredTV 1.1.x to start as expected, I would recommend going back to 1.0.3. Everything works as expected, even auto start after boot.
