Running Filter on Local Folders?

Open viking2 opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

I believe it is not possible, but to make sure... Is it possible to run a filter on a local folder (Saved Search in this case) or can filters only be run on the inbox?

I have a Saved Search that combine E-mails from several inboxes, and I would like to run the filter on the Saved Search folder rather than to run a separate filter on each inbox. If I need to recreate the filter for each inbox, is it possible to copy it from one inbox to another? (New>Copy only seems to copy the filter to the same inbox?)

I think you can run filters manually on any folder, but only manually, not automatically:

You can use my Add-on quickFilters which adds a toolbar for copying 1 or multiple filters across:

I recommend restarting Thunderbird if you copy across many filters to a different account before you start editing them (There was a bug reported that they may be linked within the session so if you edit a copy it may affect the original unless you restart Tb)

Nope, manually run it doesn't work either.

p.s. I am impressed on how quickly you respond to the posts here!

This happens with a single filter, not just "many". My workaround is to use the quickFilter "Clone" option which creates a copy of the filter with a suffix ( "(copy)" ). Then cut/paste the copy to the new account. This avoids the buggy confusion where two filters have the same name, resulting in the editing of one affecting the other. After the paste, rename the filter to something close but not exactly the same as the original.
