Script mode/options
Custom mode with Disable the recommended section in the start menu? selected
Describe the issue
When I ran through Custom Mode and selected:
Do you want to make any changes to the start menu? (y/n): y Disable the recommended section in the start menu? This applies to all users (y/n): y
I received confirmation in the output:
Disabling the start menu recommended section... The operation completed successfully.
However, the recommended section in the start menu still exists:
Steps to reproduce
- Apply the registry edits in Disable_Start_Recommended.reg to Windows 11 Home 24H2 (26100.6584)
- Restart
- Observe Recommended section still present in Start menu
Error output
No response
Additional context
I do not believe this issue is related to #277. The script reports successfully applying Disable_Start_Recommended.reg, and I confirmed all of the values in the Registry Editor.
I did find one instance (3 months old) in a thread unrelated to this tool where a user reported the same registry edits not working in the Home version: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1l7xhn6/comment/mx3to1p
This must have changed recently then. I have tested this in the past to work on home/pro environments. I'll test it again once I have time to setup my virtual environment again :)
Thank you! This is a fresh Windows 11 Home install, with no prior changes, so it is a pretty isolated environment, which is why I think something may have actually changed in recent updates. Ah, I was curious if you had an easy testing setup with virtual environments to test different versions. I was considering VirtualBox and testing some Windows 11 ISOs, but I didn't immediately see an easy source for anything but the latest version.
you can simply switch ur edition with massgravel, just convert to pro...

To add to this issue: a new version of the start menu is currently rolling out in Windows 11 which makes this feature redundant. I'm not sure if it's worth investing much time into fixing this issue, as it'll soon not work anymore anyway.
I'm closing this issue. Starting around 26200 everybody should be rolling over to the new start menu design where this setting is no longer relevant.
