c608 subtitle handling?

Open wkearney99 opened this issue 3 years ago • 1 comments

Problem Description

I have a number of TV programs, recorded using a Tivo DVR from the BBC-America channel. They've got subtitles that VLC lists as "EIA-608 subtitles (c608)".

The subtitle track section in the VidCoder window reads "Unknown, Closed Caption [CC608]"

My goal is to include these as 'soft subtitles' in an MP4 container. Not burned-into the video frame.

Is it possible for VidCoder to do this? When I try it there's no useful text in the caption, just repeated text that appears to be some portion of the channel name? It reads "America RltBBC America - RltBB".

The source clips are 3GB in size so it'd be a problem posting them here.

What version of VidCoder are you running?

7.15

The actual subtitle encoding is handled by the HandBrake engine that VidCoder uses. I do know that the MKV container is a bit more forgiving about when it can include soft subtitles. Other than that, I would get an encode log in HandBrake and ask them for help.
