Performance issues

Open liammkellly opened this issue 8 months ago • 3 comments

For the past week or so I have seen performance issues when using NetNewsWire after a few minutes:

  • app becomes very slow to respond to UI interactions
  • attempting to exit the app takes a very long time
  • app quits unexpectedly
  • when returning to the Home Screen the whole device is slow, with display issues in widgets
  • less often, app causes the whole window server to restart (spinning wheel on black screen)

Symptoms vary in type and intensity but are always present after a few minutes at most. This might have started with iOS 18.4 even though I'm not entirely sure of the exact timing. The device is an iPad mini 5 (relatively aging, but was working flawlessly until now). No issues with other apps. I initially suspected a cache/storage issue as there was only 1 GB available locally but this persisted after getting back to ~5 GB. This persists after deleting the app and reimporting feeds (from a .opml file, not signed in to any account).

By “not signed into to any account” do you mean that you’re using On My iPad rather than iCloud, Feedbin, Feedly, etc.?

Do you have a high number of feeds? High number of unread articles?

Yes using only “On My iPad” (although a progress bar is shown under the list of feeds).

I have approximately 40 feeds, not sure if that qualifies as high.

Last time I reproduced yesterday I had 2 unread articles.

I also tried to have a look at logs by streaming to my Mac, but streaming stopped when the issue began.
