Hide read articles should be available as a global option

Open mike-to-spec opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

If you have several feeds in a folder and set the option to hide read article, each feed returns both unread/read instead of unread only, so you have to constantly set it to hide again for individual feed.

It would be nice if we can get an option to set this globally to all views.

Version: Version 6.0.2b1 (6031) Platform: macOS

I came to open exactly this feature request. Upvote from me.

Same. My preference is fundamentally "don't show read stuff". This means I have to separately configure every single feed on each device not to show read articles.

That's extremely tedious, and I'm not exactly sure what the benefit of a feed-specific toggle is. Is there a reason it is not a global setting like "Oldest/Newest Articles on Top"?

It would make more sense if it was the other way around. Keep read article showing for specific feeds and don't show them globally.

I have to switch views every time I mark my All Unread topic as being read and the article all stick in the display. It actually seems like a bug

I am still seeing this issue in 6.03 and none of the options that they mentioned are even available. Which is why I wqas posting here.

I don't think this is a good default:

https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire/blob/e83082d417b1cbccd9614d52c6d20f71ab6e8d3b/Modules/Account/Sources/Account/Feed.swift#L16-L18

Hiding read articles should be the default for regular feeds too, just like a folder:

https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire/blob/e83082d417b1cbccd9614d52c6d20f71ab6e8d3b/Modules/Account/Sources/Account/Folder.swift#L15-L17

Changing the default can be an easy fix for this issue. At least we don't need to toggle it for every single feed.

Honestly though, the ideal UI/UX would be the toggle controls globally all feeds and folders. So when you toggle it folder sidebar also updates.
